What are the alternatives to proceeding with thyroid RFA?

There are always alternatives to thyroid ablation for benign, non-cancerous nodules. Because the treatment is for benign disease there is the option of delaying treatment or simply avoiding active treatment altogether. This decision depends on how severe or distressing the nodule symptoms are. When nodules contain more fluid than solid tissue it may also be possible to aspirate the nodule with a fine needle or inject the nodule with alcohol to reduce the risk of fluid reaccumulating. The doctor looking after you should be able to decide on whether this approach is appropriate. Surgery of course remains a viable and well established option.
