Ethanol ablation may not work and the nodule may refill quickly after treatment. It is less effective when nodules are very large, have more solid tissue, the fluid content is thick or gel-like or the nodule contains lots of smaller fluid spaces rather than just one fluid-filled space. Cysts can also recur in the future as the nodule is still present but shrunken.
